Basic formula

Download time = file size in megabits ÷ internet speed in Mbps.

Convert file size

1 byte = 8 bits. A 1 GB file is about 8000 megabits.

Example

A 5 GB file on a 100 Mbps connection takes about 400 seconds before overhead.

Why real time differs

Wi‑Fi quality, server speed, network load and background apps can slow the download.
